The ‘Wasawasa’ Festival of Oceans is a week-long arts festival developed and created by our youth, our artists, our organisational partners and members of our community. The activities are geared towards creating projects and events that provide professional development, and exchange solutions that will determine our pathway to a sustainable future.
On an artistic level, the festival provides a space for Pacific artists not only to perform and exhibit their work to a major audience but also provides a platform to test their creative projects, ideas and concepts with a purpose to develop new work for the international festival circuit.
On a community level, the festival is about developing creative solutions to problems associated with our communities, our land and sea – our very livelihood in the Pacific. With its multitude of NGOs and programmes associated with the environment and other social issues, Fiji needs to be at the forefront of addressing the global issues that impact the Pacific.
The outreach for sustainable solutions needs to be widened into all levels of the community and the arts is a visible, real way for this awareness to be created.

The ‘Wasawasa’ Festival of Oceans aims to address this need and has an underlying focus on community building, healing the family, environmental and cultural conservation.
